Reflection on the Practice Assessor Refresher

Last month saw the first event of the academic year to support the development of practice assessors. The session was aimed at refreshing the knowledge and identifying transferable skills of existing Stage 2 qualified and experienced practice educators who were moving into or had recently moved into the role of practice assessor of trainee PEs. The half day session was attended by 12 practice educators from 7 partner agencies and included those already in the role and those contemplating taking the plunge!

It was facilitated by Dale van Graan and Dermot Brady, senior lecturers from Kingston UnIversity and both Josie Newton, PE Development Worker, and Paul Lawrence, PE Consultant, attended as part of their familiarisation with processes and roles within and across the Teaching Partnership.

There was lively discussion about the opportunities provided by the PA role to not only retain currency, but also to develop PE skills and knowledge in a way which can meet organisational as well as more personal, professional objectives. Feedback confirmed that the objectives of the session had been met and confidence boosted.
